Borgata Summer Poker Open 2010
Event 9: $300 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha
June 18
Frank Pugliese (West Patterson, NJ) was the last man standing in the Pot Limit Omaha tournament as he earned $8,046 in Event 9 of the Borgata Summer Poker Open.
79 players competed for the $23,700 prize pool as Pugliese defeated Kevin Wolbach (Macungie, PA) heads-up to win the title after some crazy and erratic four-handed play.
Pugliese, in trouble as he bets pot with K-J-8-9 against Kevin Wolbach's K-K-6-7, but when the board runs out 5-J-10-J-Q, the queen high straight gives Pugliese the championship.
"It was a great tournament," says, Pugliese who takes home $8,046 for first place.
Wolbach, playing in his first live PLO tournament, was thrilled to finish second while cashing for $4,368.
The field featured many Borgata PLO regulars, but the most notable player in the field was Joe Simmons (Philadelphia, PA). Joe made his mark on the poker world in 2007 when he final-tabled the $10k WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship event, finishing 4th for $387,709. His lifetime tournament earnings are now more than $740,000, but Simmons did not cash in this event.
